Mrs. Massey's Classroom Blog

I believe I would not use a blog. My future plans is to be a special education teacher. I would think the instruction to my students would be individualized. The special education room is very different than the typical classroom. Many students may not have the ability to log on to a computer, or even be able to participate on a classroom blog.

Snow Day
Greetings All,
Since we are all experiencing a winter storm and school is cancelled, are you wondering how you can spend time with your children and have them learn some lessons, too? I know I don't want my three children just spending their time playing video games and being bored. Here is how my children and I passed the time today.
Since the children were so excited about the snow, I allowed them to play out in it. Plus to add a little fitness activity to it, they did some shoveling. They also played chase with the dog.
Once everyone is back in the house, we decided to bake banana bread. As we are measuring ingredients, I asked how many 1/3 cups make a cup? Explaining the difference of why we use liquid measure cups compared to dry measure cups. I can check for comprehension from the kids if they are reading the recipe correctly. Then we decided to make spaghetti for supper. Once again, we make homemade sauce. The kids and I discussed what are healthy food verses junk food. Then everyone loves eating all the food we made.
Get out a few board games. Lots of different mini lessons are used in a game. Counting, play money management, taking turns, reading directions, and how to be a gracious player are many examples of these lessons.
Need a little quiet time? Get out a book and read. Most importantly, have fun!
I hope you are enjoying your snow day as much as I am. I am looking forward in seeing you soon! Take Care! ~ Mrs. Massey
